Taina Carrion-Perez is a Nuyorican video editor and playwright from East Harlem who uses storytelling to delve into the intricacies of human relationships and mental health through the lens of a variety of characters. She holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Playwriting & Screenwriting from SUNY Purchase College.

 

As an editor, throughout her career, Taina has edited a wide range of documentary, narrative, and digital projects. Her most recent credits include: Stage Animal (PBS), "Conchalant" Podcast Series (YouTube), James Baldwin Centennial Discussion, (Manhattan Neighborhood Network), and “Centerstage” Official Music Video by Julia Klot (YouTube).

 

Her assistant editor credits include: I’m Your Venus, a moving and timely documentary following the unsolved murder of Venus Xtravaganza, star of the legendary Paris Is Burning, which premiered to a sold out audience as a part of the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. Satisfied, an intimate look at Renée Elise Goldsberry’s life as she balances her career and family; which also premiered at the 2024 Tribeca Film Festival. Hip Hop World, an international journey through Hip Hop, streaming on Amazon Prime.

 

She began her filmmaking career as a post-production assistant at Digital Bodega. During her time there, she assisted on brand-sponsored content for clients such as Meta, Red Bull, Ghetto Film School, Lionsgate, and the Maya Wiley for Mayor Campaign. On set, she moved her way up from production assistant to 1st AC on Digital Bodega’s original web series, La Factoria. She was then promoted to lead editor for Digital Bodega’s original YouTube content as well as their social media.

As a playwright, during her time in college, her play, Hija De Arte, was produced as a part of the New Plays Now Festival at SUNY Purchase. Her radio play, and directorial debut, Miguelito, was produced by the New Day Art Collective, formerly known as Let's Make a Theatre Company, in their debut showcase, which was live streamed on YouTube and garnered 3.5k views. The Boogie Boarder, was produced by the Westchester Collaborative Theater as a part of the Hudson Valley New Voices Festival. Her first full-length play, My Girl, Lola, was named a semi-finalist in the 2024 SheNYC Arts Summer Theater Festival. Her play, Little Lina, was produced by The Chain Theatre as a part of the 2025 Winter One-Act Play Festival. Her most recent play, Hang It Up, is currently in development.

When she's not creating theatre or film, she can be found volunteering at the 52nd Street Project. She is currently the Editor & Post-Production Coordinator for the New York City Ballet.
